Tips for Keeping Spiders Out of Your House

The mere mention of the word “spider” will send some people (even some of you men out there) into a state of fright. There are those who are so afraid of spiders that they suffer physical symptoms when they see a spider or even think one may be nearby. If you have seen the movie Arachnophobia you are well aware how deathly afraid of spiders some people are, but then there are those who are not affected at all by the presence of spiders and may even enjoy spiders enough to seek spiders out as pets! However, if you’re not a fan of spiders and live in Colorado, you may be looking for pest control in Castle Rock because you’ve been noticing little creepy crawly intruders in your home.

Even if you aren’t afraid of spiders, you may be wondering how to keep these pesky little varmints out of your home because you probably don’t want them sharing your living space. Since most of us don’t want to see spiders inside our home (unless they’re housed in a terrarium with a lid!), let’s take a look at some of the best ways to keep spiders outdoors where they belong.

  • Lady bugs—If you have a garden or shrubs up against your home, buy some lady bugs and add them to the area. Lady bugs will help prevent spiders from entering your home through windows and doors.
  • Natural spider spray—You can make an all-natural spider spray by combining a cup of apple cider vinegar, a teaspoon of oil, one cup of pepper and a teaspoon of liquid soap. Mix well in a spray bottle and spray inside and outside the house where you have seen spiders or where spiders are prone to enter the home like around windows and doors.
  • Peppermint oil—Spiders absolutely hate peppermint oil, and a little bit of this strong-smelling stuff goes a long way. Combine it with water to dilute it and simply spray it around doors and windows to keep spiders out of your home.
  • Citrus peels—Because spiders also hate the smell of anything in the citrus family, when you eat oranges, grapefruits or lemons, keep the peels and strategically place them around your home at key points of spider entry. Be sure to discard the peels and replace them with new ones often as the oils in the citrus peel dry up rather quickly.

Taylor Mead

Ronnie came out and completed an inspection in our home. He gave us good news that we did not have an insect problem. He was very knowledgeable, courteous and professional. Although they typically do not deal with our particular problem, they were willing to do an inspection and point us in the right direction. The gal in the office went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of. Thank you!
